Dennedy, Michael
Michael Conall Dennedy is a Consultant Endocrinologist and Associate Professor of Therapeutics, specializing in adrenal endocrinology and reproduction. His clinical expertise includes the management of complex adrenal disorders such as adrenocortical carcinoma, primary aldosteronism, and Cushing’s syndrome. These areas form the foundation of both his clinical practice and research activities.
Dr. Dennedy leads a research group focused on investigating the effects of hyperthermia on adrenocortical tumors. His work in this area seeks to explore how hyperthermic treatments might be used to target adrenocortical carcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. Additionally, his research includes the study of theranostic nanoparticles, which have the potential to both diagnose and treat functioning adrenocortical tumors. This translational research aims to bring new therapeutic strategies from the laboratory into clinical practice.
In his academic role, Prof. Dennedy is involved in the education and training of medical students and fellows. He is the principal investigator for the Irish Clinical Academic Training Programme, which funds postgraduate trainees in medicine, veterinary medicine and dentistry to undertake a PhD and dedicated research training. His contribution to training emphasizes the importance of integrating current research findings with clinical practice, aiming to prepare the next generation of emerging clinical academics to address emerging challenges.
Prof Dennedy holds research grants from Science Foundation Ireland, the Health Research Board and the National Institutes of Health.
